Principal's Message

Mr David Leslie

Dear Families,

This is our second last newsletter for the year.  We are currently in the season of Advent – the time of preparation for the great Feast of Christmas. In his homily for the first Sunday of Advent in St Peter’s at the Vatican on Sunday, Pope Francis recommended a traditional Advent prayer to invite God to draw close during this new liturgical year.

Here are Pope Francis’ words:

“Advent is the season for remembering the closeness of God who came down to dwell in our midst… Let us make the traditional Advent prayer our own: ‘Come, Lord Jesus.’ We can say it at the beginning of each day and repeat it often, before our meetings, our studies and our work, before making decisions, in every important or difficult moment of our lives: ‘Come, Lord Jesus.”

2020 has been a strange year in so many ways. We have all had to adapt to circumstances, often with little notice. The resilience shown by students, families and staff has been inspiring – no matter what has happened, people have risen to the challenge and got on with things. So many of our traditional markers through the year have not happened, many have remarked that the end of the year now seems to be rushing up on us all.

The College’s Academic year closes on Thursday with our annual Presentation of Awards Ceremony. Like most other things this year, it will be done differently. There will be no Mass this year. Instead, each year level will have its own assembly, with each class celebrating the end of year with their own liturgy. The Presentation of Awards Ceremony will commence at 11.00am. Parents and families are not able to attend in person, but will be able to watch the awards online through the links on the PAM module via the College website. Awardees will be presented in Pioneer Hall to receive their awards, other students will participate via videolink from their classrooms. (Please see instructions below)

All students will be dismissed after the conclusion of the Awards Ceremony, which will be approximately 12.30pm. The College’s charter buses will depart at this time. The PTV government fleet buses will depart at their usual time of 3.20pm. Any students who cannot be picked up and need to wait for the end of the day buses will be supervised in the Library for the afternoon.

Please note your school resumption date for 2021:

  • Year 7 and Year 12 resume on Friday 29 January 2021.
  • Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 resume on Monday 1 February 2021.

Wishing all our families continuing health and happiness.
