Fern House

Fern House has begun the 2021 School year extremely smoothly with students quick to engage in their learning and happy to be back together in the classroom.

Students in Year 7 have made a smooth transition into the school and enjoyed the Orientation Week activities that enabled them to learn all of the key things that they needed in order to get started with their learning journey at Dandenong High School. This program also provided a fantastic opportunity for new students to get to know their classmates.

All students have attended assemblies where, apart from picking up key information for their current year level, they also heard Mrs Ogden, Mr Dewar and Miss Watmough talk about the challenges that we faced last year and the key learnings that they took from that challenge. These learnings included being aware of what is within our control, the importance of resilience, and respecting the varied experiences of others through challenge.

These lessons were useful as we then experienced a short lockdown where we missed three days of school. It was pleasing to see the students' response to this short interruption and the way in which they were quickly able to re-engage with their learning.

New Staff at Fern House

At the start of this year, we welcomed new members of staff to Fern House. These include Miss Janif, Mr Liston, Miss Kolio and Mr Ngrimwa into the staffroom.

There was also a change to the House Leadership team which included Mr Hassett as the Assistant House Leader and Miss Le Lievre joining Mr Hill as a Student Engagement Coordinator.

I have also enjoyed moving into Fern as the new House Leader in 2021. I would especially like to also acknowledge the support and efforts of Miss Anderson, who is in our House Office. She does so much to support students as they return to school and continues this work into the term.
