Chess Club

Week 7 was a busy week for the Chess Club. On Tuesday, 24 November, Players representing McCarthy played virtual chess against players from Farrar and Oxley High School. The games went for 2 hours, during that time our players were able to win most of their games.

This year saw an increase in virtual games against other schools, like Inverell High School. Virtual games will be continuing for next year, with the aim to increase the number of games being played. The aim of the Tuesday games was to give Farrar a chance to become familiar with Virtual Chess, which in turn will allow more games against our school.

On Friday, 27 November, representatives travelled to Gunnedah to play against St Mary’s. This was a friendly game to help promote the skills of all players. Players from McCarthy showed much improvement. Well done to Cameron Keys and Dante Reverr, who both won the majority of their games.

Thanks goes to our hosts at St Mary’s, who are keen to continue the games for next year. Well done to Emily Pring, Dante Reverr, Darcy Lyon, Cameron Keys and Angus Christakos.

The school chess club will resume next year. There are plans to expand our competition and increase the number of games against other schools. The Chess club is open to all students.

Well done all players for supporting the club for 2020.
