Beginning of School

Year Liturgy

St John Vianney's Beginning of School Year Liturgy

On the first Friday of school on February 5th, the whole school participated in a Beginning of Year School Liturgy. We gathered to thank God for bringing us together in 2021 as a school community. Due to Covid restrictions, it was held in the Performing Arts area and was attended by the senior students, senior teachers, Mr Mullaly and Mrs Klupacs. It was an honor to have Father Eric join us, who officiated the liturgy. The rest of the school and staff were able to join in via Google Meet from their classroom or office.

Some captains processed in with a variety of special items that hold significance for SJV. Tanishka and Raf held the school banner, the school candle was carried in by Jessica, the school vision statement by Eva and Immanuel, and the Book of the Gospels by Cooper. Other captains read from Scripture or participated in various ways. The senior students put a lot of heart and soul into the hymns and sang beautifully.

During the liturgy, the SJV staff were commissioned into the community by taking a pledge stating that they will continue to walk with families in faith and knowledge and continually strive to inspire each child.

Our school captains were presented with their leadership badges by Mr Mullaly and Mrs Klupacs. Once again, we congratulate the SJV captains chosen by the staff and students:

School Captains: Raf and Tanishka

Sports Captains: Cooper M and Declan

Public Relations Captains: Kayla and Immanuel

House Captains: Benjamin, Celine, Sasa and Eva

Arts Captains: Madison and Minhtam

Social Justice Captains: Cyrella and Jessica

ICT Captains: Ida and Kanishk

All Year 6s were then presented with their badges and took a pledge stating that they will always try their best to be outstanding leaders of SJV. We have no doubt they will honour this promise and that God will guide them in their quest to shine as 2021 school leaders.

Then the event that we were all waiting for happened. The Preps were introduced and ‘clapped into’ our SJV community! We all felt a sense of pride as we watched them walking in with a sense of uncertainty that soon changed to smiles when they could see how welcoming everyone was.

Everyone who participated in the liturgy did so wholeheartedly and we were left with a greater sense of community. May all who are connected to SJV have a blessed year and may you always be humbled in the fact that you will always remain an integral part of our wonderful school!
