Years 9 & 10

YEAR 9 COORDINATOR
Kris Austin
kris.austin@preshil.vic.edu.au
It is with great excitement that I welcome students and parents to Year 9, 2021. I haven’t had the pleasure of being your Coordinator before and I’m really looking forward to the experience. For those of you who don’t know me, I have been a teacher at Preshil since 2010 and taught across all year levels, my main focus being Mathematics and PE. I am sure this year is going to be an exciting one in which I hope we are able to make up for the challenges of 2020.
YEAR 10 COORDINATOR
Kat Girbau
katherine.girbau@preshil.vic.edu.au
It is with absolute joy that I welcome our Year 10s for 2021.
This year school starts to look a little more towards the future and what our students will do in the Diploma Programme and beyond.
Call out for parent reps
We extend an invitation to all parents to consider being one of this year’s parent reps; a fantastic role that really assists us in fostering our Preshil community. Parents of new students are most welcome! If interested, please make contact with me via email.
Camp Week Year 9
Anglesea, 15-19 February
Information about camp has been published on Compass. This is where parents can give consent, complete medical details and find out what your child needs to bring. We will depart by coach from Preshil at 8.30am on the Monday and stay at Eumeralla Scout Camp. During the week we will have lots of time to get to know each other and engage in a range of fun outdoor activities. We will arrive back at school around 11.30am on the Friday.
Camp Week Year 10
Wollangarra, 15-19 February
More information will be distributed soon, however a 'what to bring list' can be found in the resources section on the Compass event. There will be hiking and camping during this week, so there are a few extra requirements on the list. We will be catching public transport there and back so students will need a valid myki.
Years 9 & 10 Experience
The current plan is for this to go ahead mid-year. The goal of going to northern WA still remains, however we are also working on an alternative program in Queensland in case this is not possible. We will be holding an information evening later in the year when we can discuss the details.
Timetables
Student timetables are live on Compass. Any issues or challenges can be easily fixed so please let Kris know at the earliest.
Work experience and Careers
Year 10s will be completing one week of work experience this year as well as an incredible Careers program put together by Bronte Howell. Previously students have completed their first aid certificate, a barista course, food handling certificate, resume writing plus a whole bunch of other activities designed to help them enter the workforce.
Drivers Ed
This year a majority of Year 10s will be looking to get their Learner's permit so we will also be doing a mini course to help them prepare for this.
Diploma Programme information evenings/subject choices
Dates for information evenings will appear on the calendar shortly so please keep an eye out for them. These sessions will be important for students and parents/guardians to attend and help tailor the DP to individual strengths and interests. Additionally, teachers will begin to introduce students to the subjects available in the DP.
As always, please get in touch if you have any questions or queries.
