Library Borrowing

Could ALL library books please be returned to the library as soon as possible so that a final year stock take can be done.

This will allow time for the repair and/or replacement of any well loved books to occur before we begin again next year.

A reminder that there are still many books overdue from term 1- especially those that went out at the beginning of remote learning. Stage 3 title 'My Place' need to be returned please.

Christmas Blessings

To our St Joseph's families,

May your Christmas be blessed by time spent with those who mean the most sharing in the Spirit that is real meaning of Christmas.

SORA

Don't forget SORA for your child's reading source. SORA allows children to read on any device they are able to access the internet on, wherever they may be. It provides access to hundreds of titles suitable for their age. All students can access this by logging in to their school account and going onto the library site. They may also access by clicking on the icon above. Primary students are all able to access this as they have previously logged in. Details are as for when logging in to school accounts for each student which were sent home at the beginning of home learning.

Book Club

Thank you to those families who have supported this wonderful service offered to our school by Scholastic Australia this year. I look forward to offering this again in 2021.

Throughout the year we have used our Scholastic Rewards to purchase reading Boxes for Stage 2 as well as some resources for the library. A total of approximately $1000 has been earned by your support of this service.

Holiday Reading

Help your child fight the 'holday slide'.

This phenomenon was first recognised in the USA in the late 1990's. Much research has been done into it's effect.  Statistics tell us that all children may lose months of academic progress over the long Christmas break if they aren't practising their reading and mathematics.

One way to help prevent this is to encourage your child to read and do basic math computations as part of their everyday activities- not as an extra 'lesson'. I recommend the 2019 report on research carried out by Scholastic found at https://www.scholastic.com/readingreport/navigate-the-world.html as a starting point.
