Celebrating Teaching and Learning in 2020.

2020 was not the year we all expected, but there have been many things to celebrate. When we think about the learning curve we all experienced across this year we can be proud of our CSPS community. Who knew that we could learn so much remotely? Who knew what we the students. the families, the staff and the community were able to learn and achieve?

When the reports are sent out next week please take the time to read the comments and check the progression points. As discussed in the last newsletter, some students will have made less than 12 months of growth in some areas. This may be attributed to a variety of factors. Teachers need to see a variety of evidence from students when assessing. The 2021 focus on learning, extension and catchup will mean that students will receive targeted teaching and learning activities to ensure development. Please email your classroom teacher if you have any further questions.

Bizarre Bazaar

On Tuesday the 1st of December the Senior School students held their Bizarre Bazaar. Students worked all term to design and create items to sell in their market stalls. The money raised from the sale of the items has been donated to Unicef and the World Wildlife Fund.

We would like to thank all families of Cranbourne South in helping us raise $1079.20 for Unicef and $836.60 for The World Wildlife Fund.

Ideas for Holiday Fun and still learning

Here are some sly and fun ways to slip in learning, when the kids have slipped into thongs and holiday mode.

  • Get messy in the kitchen and bake: Cooking is a cool way for reading, working with fractions and using times.
  • Build a worm farm or get into the garden. Learn about recycling and biograding.
  • Play card games: cards provide number and pattern skills and encourage cooperation and sharing.
  • Mathletics, Reading Eggs and Soundwaves are still live over the holidays. If your kids want some screen time, encourage some educational games before Roblox etc.
  • Play board games and puzzles. Get out the old games like Scrabble, Monopoly or even Snakes and Ladders to exercise your minds.
  • Visit the local library for free reading resources.
  • Have some fizzy fun and do some science experiments in the kitchen. Kidspot has a range of science experiments to try.
  • Go day tripping. A day out is fun but is also a great way to discover new things.
  • Enjoy the holidays and relax together - chatting and learning about each other.

Have a great holiday - Karen Halket
