PICNIC/DISCO
Many thanks are extended to Cass Williams, Katie Griffin and the social committee for organising this event for the community. Despite a rainy morning, the event was able to go ahead, and lots of fun was had by all!
Congratulations to Ryan Driscoll (6P) and his team of helpers, Alex Noonan, Nicola Karavendzas, Charlie Lamont, Dominic Pretto, Sam Hickman, Ollie Sanders and Ruby Lamont, for running the slushy stall. Ryan is organising to donate the profits ($324.80) to the Yatra foundation that provides disadvantaged children in India the opportunity to access education. Ryan’s action was prompted by the year 5/6 PYP unit of inquiry on Diverse Lifestyles. The central idea of this unit was ‘Comparing lifestyles leads to an appreciation of differences, challenges and opportunities’. As Ryan said, “Hopefully this will help give children in India the same opportunities for education that we have right here at Murrumbeena primary school”.

TRANSITION ACTIVITIES
At this time of the year we focus on activities which will help our students transition from one year level to the next. These activities have started and will continue to the end of the school year.
Here are some examples:-
Prep students spent 2 days in the grade one classrooms during 2015 Prep Orientation. This was a wonderful opportunity to become more familiar with the Grade 1 classrooms and their teachers.
They also pop in from time to time to have lunch and next week’s house sports will be another opportunity to interact with the Grade 1 students and their teachers.
Over the next two weeks Grade 1 students will have lunch and participate in making Christmas decorations with the Grade 2 teachers.
Grade 2 students are visiting the kitchen/garden in preparation for next year’s SAKG program and have had opportunities to ask questions about what to expect. Grade 2 students will also transition to the senior playground in 2015 and therefore their teachers provide familiarisation activities. Grade 3 students have shared their published narratives and information booklets with the grade 2s and have met for lunch and chatted about next year and what to expect.
Grade 4 and 5 students have had circle time together, which was a great opportunity to ask questions, express how they are feeling and hear about what to expect when transitioning into the senior school and composite classes. Miss Large has held sessions with all Grade 4 classes, answering questions and providing information about the 5/6 program.
On the last day of school, students meet with next year’s teacher and spend an hour together talking about what to expect in 2015.
