Prep

The prep students have been making some fantastic animal creations in science over the last few weeks. Students were given the challenge of making a pet of their choice and what their pet would need to live. All students did an amazing job of making their animals and have blown us away with their science learning this term!

Grade 1

The grade 1 students have been very busy designing and making their own minibeast in science this week. Students used their knowledge of minibeasts gained through their observations of the minibeast specimens and the minibeasts they found in the school yard to create their own minibeast using a range of different art materials. The grade 1 scientists made fabulous minibeasts!

Grade 2

The grade 2 students have started to plan their stop motion life cycle movies that they are making this term using the Stop Motion iPad app. Teams of students have been given an animal, started researching its life cycle, and have started taking photographs to create a storyboard for their film. We can't wait to see the stop motion films that the students make in the next few weeks!

Grade 3/4

The grade 3/4 students have continued to look at how they could classify living things by observing their features. The students built upon their previous knowledge of how to use a dichotomous key to classify minibeasts found in the school yard. The grade 3/4 students have also started to design and construct their own minibeast (bug) catcher using a range of different recyclable materials. The students have been doing a great job of making their designs!

Grade 5/6

The grade 5/6 students have continued their investigations into Adaptions. This week the students conducted an experiment investigating the effect of blubber in helping to keep animals warm in extremely cold environments. Using a layer of fat (to model the blubber that an animial has) students' plunged thier hands into ice-cold water. The differences we observed between the the hands with/without the fat layer was impressive, even with such a thin layer.
