END OF TERM 1 IN FOUNDATION!

INQUIRY

Throughout our Inquiry topic of ‘Belonging’, Foundation students have explored what it means to be a part of a community. This topic has helped the students develop a sense of belonging at school and encouraged them to be themselves in a positive, safe and supported environment. Establishing a positive classroom environment in this way helps students feel accepted and included by their teachers and peers.

The Foundation students have also embraced their uniqueness and developed an understanding that everyone is different to each other, not just in appearance but in their individual likes, dislikes, strengths and weaknesses. They learned that all these unique qualities are what makes them special.

The students learned about how we can be safe and active at school and why we need rules at school and at home. They expanded their knowledge of the three, Upwey South Primary School values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. They investigated these values inside and outside of the classroom to ensure they understood the importance of being a positive member of the school community.

HARMONY DAY CELEBRATION

Our Harmony Day Celebration was the perfect opportunity to acknowledge our unique qualities by celebrating our diverse heritage and cultures. Students came to school dressed in the Harmony Day colour of orange or in an outfit that represented their culture/country that they have links with or have a personal interest in. The costumes were amazing! We had a fantastic day investigating and exploring all the different artefacts, pictures etc. that the students brought along with them to share. Thank you parents for all your awesome efforts.

WELCOME TO PREP PICNIC/AFTERNOON TEA

As we near the end of Term one, and the current restrictions have eased, we were so excited to invite all of our Foundation families to a ‘Welcome to School Picnic’. This was be a fantastic opportunity for us to come together to celebrate the successful start to the school year and will also provide everyone with a chance to meet and get to know other Foundation families.

Our Foundation picnic took place on Wednesday the 30th March outside in the junior area/playground at the back of the Foundation classrooms.

Congratulations to the family of Eliza, who won our raffle for Medallion Club Seats to any standard AFL game of your choice at the MCG or Marvel Stadium for a family of four! This has been kindly donated to us by our amazing Out of School Hours Care Program  Provider ‘TheirCare’.

THANK YOU!

Throughout this term we have learned the letter sounds and names for m, s, t, a, p, i, f, r and have been reading and writing words using these sounds. We have been diligently learning to count to 20 and beyond, two dimensional shapes and next week we will be learning to use directional language.

How the time flies! We cannot believe that the holidays are nearly here and that the students have completed their very first Term at school! They have been superstar students and we have been so impressed with how they have settled into the routines and structures of school. They have been very busy getting to know each other, their teachers and developing new friendships.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for all your support throughout the term.

We wish you all a Happy Easter and hope you have a relaxing break.

We look forward to seeing you all for Term Two.
