Curriculum Update

Foundation:  The focus for this Term will be to further enhance the students Fundamental Movement and Motor skills. The goal will be to create exposure to both the underarm and overarm throw techniques. The students will then apply these techniques to a variety of activities and practise each throwing style with different objects e.g. bean bags, tennis balls and basketballs.

As a part of the health curriculum the Foundation students will explore and identify a range of different emotions and develop an understanding of how they can express these emotions with visual images.

Year One/Two: The focus for this term will be to refine and practise the Fundamental Motor and movement skills. The predominate focus will be around enhancing the students confidence with throwing both underarm and overarm. They will apply learned techniques to each skill then apply them to activities which will grow their confidence and challenge them.

The Level 1-2 students will also work on building their cooperative team skills as they engage in activities which require them to working with other class members. This is an important skill to develop as it is something they will require in their weekend sports or in life activities.

As a part of the health curriculum the students will focus on unpacking our core school values (Respect, Responsibility and Resilience) and how they play an important role in both our schooling and sporting lives.

Year Three/Four: The focus for this Term will cover two areas of Sport. The first area is around the stick and ball component and encompasses the game Lacrosse. Students will participate in a four week program which looks at developing the key skills of scooping, catching and throwing. These skills will then be applied to a modified game of Lacrosse

The second are of learning will encompass the field events attached to Athletics e.g. High Jump, Long Jump, Discuss and Shot Put. All of these events will call upon the students fine and gross motor skill sets and enhance the students understanding of their importance.

As a part of the Health Curriculum students will examine how success, challenge and failure strengthen personal identity.  Within these learnings they will develop an understanding of what emotions can surfaced based on these obstacles and/or outcomes.

Year Five/Six: The focus for this Term will cover two areas of Sport. The first area is around the stick and ball component and encompasses the game Lacrosse. Students will participate in a four week program which looks at developing the key skills of scooping, catching and throwing. These skills will then be applied to a modified game of Lacrosse
