INQUIRY THIS TERM

This term we have been learning about rules and laws. Our second mini unit is on remembrance and celebrations.

Our key questions have been:

  • What is the difference between a rule and a law?
  • What is the role of the local police?
  • How can people participate in their community as active citizens?
  • How do communities celebrate their history?
  • What significant events are celebrated or commemorated in the local area, in Australia, and in other parts of the world?

Our students have investigated what rules and laws are, where they are used and how they are created. We looked at the three levels of government and what each level is responsible for. In the last two weeks of term we will be looking at celebrations and how these differ between cultures and countries. Your child may like to bring a memento or photos of a celebration within their own family or culture.

We would like thank you all for an amazing term. It has been great to be re-establish relationships with our students and families. We are looking forward to working alongside you throughout the year. Have a wonderful break and we shall see you all in Term Two.

This week we have celebrated Harmony Week. It was great to see so many students dressed in orange or in their cultural colours/outfits. We learnt about what the week represents and what living in harmony is all about. After some videos and discussions, the students completed a Harmony day activity that focused on celebrating our similarities, differences and getting along.

SWIMMING

Our year three and four students have had a busy week completing their daily intensive swimming lessons at Knox Leisureworks . Thank you for support with our swimming program. Please enjoy some  photos of what they have been up to.

REMINDERS and IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Please note that in the last week of term, the Grade 3/4 classes will be watching the film Matilda. We have been reading and exploring this text throughout the term and looking forward to be able to compare the film version.
  • Messages - If you need to have a message passed on to your child during the day, can you please send this via the office as we cannot guarantee that emails will be read during the day.
  • Year 3/4 Common Room. The students in Year 3/4 all keep their bags in classroom 7. We would love to be able to set this up as a common room with some couches. If you happen to have a spare dark coloured couch or two that are in good condition that you are rehoming, we would love for you to consider donating it to the school for students to use. Please contact Mel Rowe if you have something suitable.
  • Diaries - Your child should be bringing home their school diary each night. We would like to encourage your child (or parent) to write down the title and author of the book that is read, along with the page numbers that have been read. Students should be bringing in their diary to school daily. We would also appreciate if a parent/guardian signs the diary at least once a week.
  • Face masks -  It would be great to have a spare mask or two packed in your child's bag inside a re-sealable bag.
  • Tissues - Thank you to those families that have sent along a box of tissues to be used in your child's classroom. We would love for you to consider sending one in if you are yet to do so.
  • Times tables - Please assist your your child to practice these times tables so that they can respond automatically and in any order. When your child feels confident to be tested, they should let their teacher know. They will then be tested over the next few days. If they successfully pass the set of times tables, they will receive their next ninja belt (set of tables) to learn.
