CAPTAIN'S CORNER

YEAR 12 TRIVIA NIGHT

The much anticipated Year 12 Trivia night is a cause for much excitement within the year level. This year students were running to op shops and costume stores, to prepare an outfit in line with their table’s theme. The annual event is a student run trivia competition for Year 12 students involving creative costumes and chaotic bonus rounds.

The funds raised from the night will be donated to the worthy cause of State Schools’ Relief.

The Senior School Council worked tirelessly in preparation for the event, from organising table groups, preparing the questions and organising the wonderful prizes. Of course all the work that goes into events like these is worth it as cohort wide events are what make Year 12 special and memorable.

Trivia night is a cornerstone of the Year 12 McKinnon calendar alongside sports carnivals, Mankinnon and the Formal. As a result, all students enjoyed the opportunity to show off their trivia skills but most importantly we made long lasting memories as a cohort.

NAPLAN TESTS

Arriving in school for our first online Naplan test was simply nerve-wracking. Students were anxiously discussing the types of questions they thought would appear on the test and whether or not they would pass, with ‘lots of’ optimism, I’m sure. A tense buzzing engulfed the Year 9 cohort and with a blink of an eye, the recess bell had gone and that meant only one thing, Naplan.

Reluctantly, students headed to their form classes where the test would be held. The tumultuous echo of students’ mumbles filled the school and soon enough, the Naplan test was officially released to them. With unity, students scrambled for their headphones and mouses, determined not to waste a single second. Sixty-five minutes later, the message “You have run out of time” materialised out of thin air. With a sigh, the disgruntled Year 9s closed their tabs and started debating the right answer for each and every question on the test, even though the questions varied from student to student. However, by the time lunch came, all signs of dejection had vanished and the mood was nothing short of enthusiastic.

Two days later, the Year 9s had finally finished their last Naplan test. The humming of the school was enough to cause earthquakes because the students had not only just completed Naplan, but their Warrnambool Camp was also on the horizon. This truly has been an arduous week, so let's put this all behind us and await for camp to begin!
