YEAR 11 FORMAL

YEAR 11 FORMAL 2022

The loss of the Year 11 Central trip was undeniably devastating to our entire year level.

However, we were well compensated with the announcement of a year level formal!

Although the weather was not particularly desirable for an event of this nature, the atmosphere and energy at Merrimu Receptions was anything but. Being particularly isolated from one another for a span of almost two years has ensured we haven’t had anything but disappointments and bitter cancellations of events and trips. However, it was fantastic to see the support and enthusiasm from our own friends, and even those we’d never spoken with previously, upon arrival and throughout the night. There’s nothing quite like pretty suits to bring people together.

The event was wonderfully covid free, as we are sure much of our cohort can 100% confirm. Some of the many highlights of the night included a Rasputin Rave, an extremely competitive and spirited dance battle, and “the cutest thing” Mrs Binnion claimed she had seen at a formal - a ruthless, heated game of uno. On the whole, the vivacity and vibrancy of the event were undeniable, and it was a genuinely memorable experience for our year level.

We are massively grateful to our Student Managers, including Ms Same, who was unfortunately unable to attend physically but appeared nonetheless in her own stylish way- via hologram. A special thanks to Mr Hunt, who kept us well hydrated the entire night.

Additionally, we are honoured to have been part of Mrs Binnion’s final school formal. We thank her endlessly and hope she enjoyed all the formalities.

The only unfortunate event of the night was an ambulance being dispatched for Mr Gledhill after he was absolutely demolished in a dance battle. The perpetrator is still at large, roaming our school halls - Dr Dick.

With the unfortunate event of our iconic Central Australia trip being cancelled, the Year 11 cohort were blessed to have a special Year 11 Formal as a replacement event. The wondrous night took place on Thursday 5 May at Merrimu Receptions.

We are forever grateful to the effort that our esteemed principal Mrs Binnion, Student Managers and other staff for organising this memorable event on such short notice. We will cherish and reminisce on this unforgettable night, for years to come. Students and staff dressed to the nines to participate in Mrs Binnion’s last formal before graduating along with the Class of 2022.

Inside the venue, not once was there a dull moment on the dance floor, filled with luxurious suits and glamorous dresses. The Merrimu staff provided us with delicious finger food and drinks to enjoy: although students and teachers were far too busy dancing alongside the phenomenal DJ.

The evening was replete with classic hits such as: Dancing Queen, Billie Jean, Bohemian Rhapsody and many many more. We were all up and about, taking pictures and basking in each other's company as the event slowly proceeded to draw to an end.

The formal that started with eye-catching entrances quickly turned into one of exemplary dance moves and unforgettable memories! The atmosphere was vibrant, energetic, uplifting, and after two difficult years due to COVID-19, this was a marvellous experience for everyone and a well needed opportunity to come together before embarking on being the future class of 2023.
