Wellbeing Officer

Hello Families,

The weather has been beautiful and the in the playground there is a flurry of activity. Across the school students have been creating groups and business, working in collaboration with each other. Currently, students have created their own:

    : Cafés

     :Nature groups

    : Dance groups

    : Drawing groups

    : Sing groups

New friendships are forming and existing ones developing and the conversations between students is such a joy to hear. It has been a positive start to the year but as we all know, friendships can be tricky to navigate whether you are a child or an adult.  Providing children with the strategies they need to maintain respectful relationships is a focus area this year.

I am working alongside the junior grades to extend on the the already introduced bucket filling system.  For those that are not familiar with bucket filling, it is a term used in education to refer to positive attitudes and behaviour. It relies on the analogy that every person carries with them an invisible bucket.  This bucket contains a person's feelings and emotions. We can either fill our own buckets and others or dip into those buckets.  In the middle and senior grades we will be looking at the different aspects of wellbeing and how they can take more responsibility for their own wellbeing and identify areas that they need support in.

Although the topics can be challenging for students, the activities and programs planned are engaging and fun. Wellbeing at Weeden Heights Primary is a priority and that extends from the classroom to the playground and home.

Caring Casseroles

The wellbeing of families is also our priority and this is not limited to the school grounds. A wonderful way to support one another is to provide a meal made with love that let's families know they are not alone.  The Caring Casseroles rotation is a group of parents who are willing to make meals on a rolling roster type system so that when a family in our community is in need, then a lovingly prepared meal can be delivered to them to make their lives that little bit easier for a day.  It can be as simple as cooking a little extra when you are making dinner.

If you or your child has a heart for others, and you enjoy being able to care in a practical way, then this is a great chance for you to be a part of a great team to do just that!

All you need to do, is express your interest directly via email (my email address is below) and I will put you on the rolling roster to cook a meal every now and then.  We can then pop it in the school freezer ready to give at the appropriate time.

It would be fantastic to get this up and running as soon as possible so

if this sounds like you and/or your child could please let me know as soon as possible.

One last thing, just a friendly reminder to all caregivers that it is important to take care of your own wellbeing so be kind to yourself and do something that makes you happy.

Until next time, please remember to be kind to yourself.  Taking care of you is part of taking care of your children.
