VCAL Buddy Program

This year 20 VCAL students across years 11 and 12 will act as ‘buddies’ or ‘mentors’ to students in years 7,8 and 9 who would benefit from the friendship and support of a mentor at school. VCAL students are currently engaging in ‘Buddy/Mentor Training Workshops’ with Ms Rehak. The workshops are designed to provide the students with the skills and capabilities needed to engage young people and promote their social skills development. They have participated in a range of activities that will teach them games and ice breakers they can play with students. They are also considering their own strengths and talents and working out which skills and qualities they want to share with their young people. Today we finished off our session with a ‘ Paper Aeroplane Launch’ challenge. The students were enthusiastic and very resourceful. Congratulations to Cohen and Chelsea who won the game with an amazing paper aeroplane that really went the distance!
