College Principal Report

A very successful first term!

We have come to the end of the term with a great sense of accomplishment and also one of relief. Most aspects of school life have returned to normal with excursions, incursions, camps and sports all happening again. There have been camps for both the Year 9s and the Year 7s happening this term plus many other activities too numerous to mention. It is very pleasing to have those parts of school life being possible again. The relief comes from the fact that we have made it through without any need to have to revert to remote learning at any stage.

The highlight of the last two weeks has for me been the RED assemblies I have attended on both campuses.  To be able to see all of the staff and students gathered to recognise the achievements of students from each year level plus introduce the Year 7 Captains was a genuine pleasure. I would like to congratulate the Campus Captains (Michelle Seng and Sithisak Sereibott at Banksia and Lydia McCracken-Matthews and Jimmy Webster at Acacia)  for their excellent running of the assemblies. It was also very please to welcome back to past students  - Minh Nguyen and Ricky Ngo - to speak at the assemblies. It is always good to see alumni return to the school.

Extension of the Rapid Antigen Testing Program

The Victorian Government has announced it is extending the RAT screening program for the first 4 weeks of Term 2. Thank you to all students and families who have played their role in regularly testing – we know that hasn’t been easy. Your work has seen COVID-19 cases being picked up at the earliest opportunity, meaning less cases in our school and more time in the classroom for our students.T he testing recommendations will remain the same next Term for students and staff with all students recommended to test at home twice a week. RAT kits will be distributed to students before the end of Term for use during the holidays and again at the beginning of Term 2. As we approach winter and flu season, the vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 and booster shots for students 16+ remains the best way to ensure protection for students and staff. The Easter break is a good opportunity to get your child vaccinated ahead of this, with many options across GPs, pharmacies and the state run vaccination clinics.
