Artist of the Week

Michael Kisby

Snow Covered Landscape 2022 Acrylic on Paper

Michael of Banksia Campus completed this painting in year 10 Art. This artwork was inspired by the movement of Impressionism, featuring the subject matter of Michael's dream holiday location. The use of light colours, obvious brushstrokes and visual mixing make a beautiful idyllic pastel snow covered trail. Michael has carefully rendered the light reflecting on the snow to give the sense and feeling of the location without aiming for realism which was the goal of the impressionists.

Elena Mitrevska

Study for Personal Artwork 2022Mixed media: Lino print, marker, collage and pen on paper

Elena of Acacia year 10 is studying year 11 Art as an accelerated subject. This piece is a small study that she has completed in her visual diary with the aim to be experimental in the application of a range of materials and processes. She began the work by carving a piece of lino from which she made many prints. She then cut on her prints and collaged them together, layering markers and pen to build the composition. The result is a textural, multifaceted piece. She says of this study:

"I'm trying to express my volatility. The unravelling composition of the collage reflects on the myriad of gears, levers and dials of my personality"

Jin Yin Preap

Portrait of Bjork2022 Acrylic on Paper

This term, Year 9's have been working on using colour to represent a loved one or someone you look up to. Students were challenged to apply colour theory by using only a two colour relationship and their knowledge of the colour wheel. The image was resized from an A5 print up to A3 using the grid method to upsize works in order to gain correct proportions. Jin's painting of Bjork captures the experimental nature of the singer's music within a successful portrait artwork.
