HEADSTART Apprentices and Trainees – Term 1 2022
This term has seen 4 students from KSC commencing their School Based Apprenticeships (SBAT’s) as part of their HEADSTART Pathway.
Rael Chung – Year 11, Acacia Campus studying Certificate III in Hairdressing
working with Oscar Oscar Hair Salon
Rael has a strong interest in both hairdressing and Manga video games which have led to him styling wigs in this genre at home. He applied for the HEADSTART program with his sights set on becoming a hairdresser. A short trial with Oscar Oscar Hair Salon in Southland, soon led to him being offered a SBAT as part of his Year 11 VCAL program. Tania the Salon Manager was very impressed with his skills and recognized that he has “real talent”. This is a wonderful opportunity to allow Rael to develop the skills he already has in a creative environment. Watch out for him on the cat walks of the future!
Madelyn Maynard Year 12 Acacia Campus studying Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. Working with Busy Bees Day Care, Narre Warren South
Maddy has already completed the Cert II in Educational Support last year through VETDSS, her passion is to become a Primary School teacher. Maddy wanted to build on her existing skills and knowledge as she progresses in her chosen pathway, and she applied to be part of the HEADSTART program. Following her trail with Busy Bees, Narre Warren South, she was delighted to be offered a position as a school based trainee working 2 days per week and studying her Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care through work place training with Selmar RTO. Maddy is a valued team member and well thought of at the day care centre by both her colleagues and the children that she cares for. Well done Maddy!
Maija Justic – Year 12 Banksia Campus studying Certificate III in Community Services and working with Aligned Leisure, Cardinia Life Centre
Maija was unsure about her pathway post Year 12 and has been considering either a career in Disability Care or Youth Work. She applied for the HEADSTART program as she was interested in the Community Services pathways to these industries. Maija worked through the application process with Richmond Football Club’s Institute and was delighted to be offered a traineeship working at Aligned Leisure’s Sports Complex at Cardinia Life Centre, Pakenham. Her role there is varied but gives her opportunities to work with the general public and be able to support people from all ages and abilities. She particularly enjoys writing gym programs and participating in the Pilates classes. Maddy is studying with Swinburne TAFE and completing the Certificate III in Community Services through work place training. She has also now decided to complete her Diploma of Community Services next year once she graduates from KSC. Your future looks bright Maija!
Riley Broadbent - Year 11 at Acacia Campus. Has secured an SBATs as an Electrician as part of his HEADSTART pathway. Riley has commenced with Maxard Electrical, his family business and is due to start his studies with Holmesglen TAFE. He is delighted to have secured this position and cant wait to get that “HEADSTART” on his industry of choice and hopes to one day step into the family business full time. Supporting your child's job aspirations
Written by NCVER can be found on MyFuture, here’s an excerpt and link to the full article.
Aspiring to future occupations can help your child start planning and working towards achieving their goal. However, the types and number of jobs available continue to change due to shifts in the local and global economy and advances in technology.
This means some job aspirations of your child may not align with jobs available in the future. This could have consequences for them if they invest in training for jobs that may not be available.

Speech Pathology
National shortage with strong future demand

They work with people who have difficulty communicating because of developmental delays, stroke, brain injuries, learning disability, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, dementia and hearing loss, as well as other problems that can affect speech and language. People who experience difficulties swallowing food and drink safely can also be helped by a speech pathologist.”
If you want to work as a Speech Pathologist in Australia, you will first need to complete an accredited Bachelor or Master’s-level degree.
