Pathways Report

Every year Epping Secondary College offers our Year 10 students an alternate to mainstream learning. The Pathways program is a tailormade program catering to the hands-on learner and incorporates a VET/TAFE course or work placement.

Embedded into the program is the Personal Organisational Development Class (POD). In the last 4 weeks students have used this time to get to know each other, look at areas of personal development, growth, self-care, mindfulness, mindset, goal setting, motivation, and reflection.

It has been a big adjustment for our Pathways class, and they should be commended for their enthusiasm and positive mindsets. The four-week personal reflections completed this week demonstrate an eagerness to get out into the workplace, begin their courses and meet new people.

We look forward to sharing with you our highlights and experiences throughout the year as we develop and open new and exciting chapters along the way.

Mrs Erin Clark – Pathways POD Teacher

Below are some of the thoughts from our new Pathways group:

Grace G – My highlight was starting my TAFE course and meeting new people.

Zac – I find the Pathways Program very good…and the teachers are nice. In Pathways you are treated so you feel like an adult. This year I am looking forward to getting a part time job ad completing my course, Cert. 2 Horticulture.

Bashir – The Pathways Program is going to help me with my dream job which is to own an auto mechanic company.

Jevon – My initial thoughts on the Pathways program is that it’s an amazing program if you want to learn a trade! This year I will be completing a mechanic course at ONTTC where I will learn more about cars.

Megan – I’m excited to be in this program and it’s getting me to a place I want to be in the future. I want to become an interior designer.

Grace E – The Pathways Program is an exciting program. My highlight so far has been going to my Childcare course in Preston.

Lucas – The Pathways Program is teaching us about the workplace and how to go out into the workforce. I am looking forward to getting out in the workplace as a carpenter.

Paul – Pathways allows me to focus on my VET course where I’m learning how to become a mechanic. I am looking forward to finding a work placement.

Jake – Love it! Amazing! I feel the program will help me with what I want to do in the long run. I’m doing a carpentry course at ONTTC, I am enjoying the hands-on work that will help me to become a Chippy. In the past 4 weeks I’ve met a lot of people and become mates with them.

Caleb – The Pathways class is a good and fun to work in, the teachers really treat you with respect. This program will help me get into a course related to plumbing and trade.

Dylan – My initial thoughts about the Pathways program is very positive, I feel it fits me. Pathways will help me by getting straight into a workspace environment. I am looking forward to getting my white card.

Chloe – The Pathways Program is good because it is more hands on and we have an exciting, funny class. I’ve started a Sport and Rec course at NCAT. The POD Class (Personal Organisational Development Class) has been the best.

Hunter – The program will push me and help me to achieve my dream job. My highlight so far is attending my VET course.
