New School Councillors

Following our recent call for nominations for parent members of School Council, I am happy to confirm that four parents have been elected to fill the parent Councillor vacancies.

As the number of nominations matched the number of vacancies, we have been able to confirm these appointments without the need for a ballot of all parents.

We welcome back Mathew Saliba (parent of Jack in FB and Chloe in 3/4A) and Hannah Lawson (parent of Beatrix 3/4P) who have renominated after their previous terms came to an end.

We also welcome Kaisu Tonkyra (parent of Miia in 1/2M) and Hannah Liddeaux (parent of Dash in 1/2M and Judah in 3/4PC).

Many of you will know some or all of our new councillors due to their involvement at the school over several years and I am looking forward to the skills, experience, and perspectives they will bring to our School Council

The New School Councillors will formally join Council at our next meeting on Wednesday 30th March.

Rapid Antigen tests pack 3 and parent survey

Today at school your child has been given a further pack of five Rapid Antigen Tests to bring home in their school bag.

We ask that you continue to test them at home twice each week to help us identify any covid cases that may be asymptomatic.

If your child does display any symptoms, we ask that you complete a RAT immediately. If your child returns a positive result, please refer to our previous communications on Compass for the steps that you need to follow.

The Department of Education and Training is working with the Department of Health to gather feedback from parents/carers and staff to review and improve, where possible, the implementation of the rapid antigen testing program in schools.

This will be done by identifying a representative sample of schools across all three sectors (government, Catholic, and independent) and asking those schools to distribute a link to surveys for parents.

SKiPPS has been identified as one of the schools invited to take part in this survey.

Your assistance is requested in providing the following information and links to the surveys to your parents/carers and staff today, Tuesday 1 March, or as soon as possible.

Parents and carers are requested to complete the relevant survey by 5.00pm Sunday 6 March.

NAPLAN School Readiness Test

You might have heard in the news over the last few years about NAPLAN’s transition from a paper-based test to online. 2022 was indicated as the year that all schools would undertake NAPLAN online.

NAPLAN Online is a tailored test that adapts to student responses, presenting students with questions that may be more or less difficult unlike the paper-based test from previous years.

To ensure our systems are ready for the big day, we will be holding some NAPLAN Readiness Tests throughout the month of March. This is being done across all schools around Australia prior to NAPLAN starting. We are going to kick off with the year 5 students completing a test called the Omnibus Test. This test includes questions from the reading, conventions of language and numeracy tests. We will run the Omnibus test on Tuesday 15th March for all year 5 students.

On Thursday 24th March the year 5’s, will be completing a readiness test online for writing (year 3 students will still complete their writing test on paper). This is a national event where all schools need to log onto the system at the same time and complete the test to ensure their system can handle the online traffic.

On Friday 1st April the year 3’s, will complete the Omnibus test that the year 5 students completed on Tuesday 15th March.

These tests are really important for the students as they are able to familiarise themselves with navigating through the system, ready for NAPLAN testing, which begins on Tuesday 10th May and concludes on Friday 20th.

As we get closer to NAPLAN I will provide more information about when tests will occur at school and some helpful wellbeing tips for parents and carers

Missing Scooter

Ada, one of our new Foundation students has lost her scooter and it looks like someone might have taken the wrong one by mistake.

After school, Ada was left with a scooter that was almost the same as hers but a slightly older version.

The scooter Ada was left with has quite a few scratches, a foot grip and front guard that is coming off (see photos).

If your child has a scooter that looks like Ada's but it has returned from school in a much-improved state(!) then Ada's parents would love to swap this back over. Please bring the scooter to the school office to swap it over.
