Mission

Our Lenten Journey begins…

Lent is a time of prayerful preparation for the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday. Lent begun this week with Ash Wednesday where our students participated in a Homegroup Liturgy, receiving a blessing with the ashes.

With a cross being placed on each person’s forehead, students were invited to ‘turn away from Sin, and be faithful to the Gospel’.

Traditionally Lent has been a time of fasting or going without something we enjoy and donating the money to the poor. Just as we carefully prepare for events in our personal lives, like a wedding, or a birthday; the commencement of Lent invites us to make our minds and hearts ready for remembering Jesus’ life, death and resurrection.

At Mater Dei, we run a number of Lenten projects in which students can bring to life their Lenten promise. Each year we run an Easter Raffle to support St Vincent de Paul’s Initiatives in Wagga Wagga, we also focus our charitable giving Internationally, by supporting Caritas Australia’s, Project Compassion Program.

Catholic Schools Week - Youth Mass

Caritas Australia - Project Compassion Launch

The theme for Project Compassion’s 2019 Program is based around hope and giving Lent 100%. Hope enables us to rise above our fears and helps those in great need to shape a better future for their communities. Through your generous support of Caritas Australia you are demonstrating the power of hope. For the past 55 years, Caritas Australia has worked together with our neighbours in Australia and around the world, helping those most in need. In Homegroup each week, students have the opportunity to donate money to this cause, contributing to a weekly tally, in which Homegroups challenge each other with their fundraising efforts.

St Vincent de Paul Easter Raffle

The commencement of Lent marks the beginning of our preparations for our annual Easter Raffle raising funds to support St Vincent de Paul Initiatives in Wagga. We encourage each student to support the Raffle by donating an item of Easter Confectionary, Gift Bags or Baskets to build the prizes. Raffle tickets to sell for $1.00 each, will be distributed via Homegroup next week. Students are encouraged to bring their donations into School and pass these onto their Homegroup Teacher.

Thank you for showing your support!
