Term 1 Week 5

Feature News  - Indonesian

Selamat datang kembali!

It has been an incredible first few weeks of term - time has just flown by!

Student voice has been a big focus for our units this term, with students voting and deciding on the vocabulary they should learn in Indonesian. All voices were heard, with students choosing words within our clothes, hobbies and extending sentences units.

In Foundation, students have been introduced to some fascinating facts about Indonesia, and have learnt some greetings in Indonesian. This Greetings Song has now been used across all year levels - try having a go and singing along with your child!

Selamat siang, selamat siang

Apa kabar? Apa kabar?

Baik-baik saja, baik-baik saja,

Sampai jumpa! Sampai jumpa!

In 1/2, students have begun learning about how to say a variety of clothes in Indonesian and are beginning to use sentences to describe them. Our enormous clothesline display in our classroom comes in handy as a resource for students to use!

In 3/4, students have been showing phenomenal teamwork as they work together to describe what characters like and dislike - using the hobbies they have chosen for the unit. It's hilarious to find out how many animated characters suka bermain Minecraft! Even Spongebob was having a game or two!

5/6 students have challenged themselves to up-level their sentences by using complex connectives! Using sentences they were familiar with allowed students to focus on up-leveling the structures, sentence openers and connectives used. Working both independently and in teams, they have shown creativity and zest in both silly and serious sentences! See some examples below!

  1. Saya suka anjing walaupun saya tidak suka cicak dan gajah.
I like dogs, although I do not like geckos and elephants.
  2. Saya suka dinosaurus walaupun saya tidak suka matematika atau ayam-ayam.
I like dinosaurs, although I do not like maths or chickens.
  3. Saya suka olahraga senam akan tetapi saya tidak suka bersepeda atau kamar kecil.
I like gymnastics, however I do not like bike riding or toilets.

Kitchen Garden

Junior students have been busy in the garden - weeding, mulching, planting seeds and watering. We've even had the chance to try some of our home grown grapes! They were a bit small and tangy, but a hit with lots of students! Keep an eye out for Instagram posts and pictures from the Discovery and Inquiry Centre newsletter pages!

Over the last two weeks, our senior students have been cooking up a delicious storm! It's wonderful to have comments like "Wow, that smells amazing! What have you made today?" being so common at the moment!
