Music

Background:

The Big Lost Band debuted as part of the 2019 Lost Lands festival. The Lost Lands is a large scale family oriented music and arts festival held each cup weekend in the grounds of Werribee Mansion. The Big Lost Band was one of the highlights of this last festival. In only four rehearsals over the weeks leading up to the gig, the core creative team pulled together a 136 strong band of musicians made up of families who were attending the event. 70% were children and young people, playing 20 drum kits, 40 guitars, 10 basses and assorted whistles, saxes, keyboards, buckets and coconuts. Plus a big choir.

In 2022, The Big Lost Band will debut as part of the City of Whittlesea Community Festival, offering workshops for musicians, singers and music lovers to come together and jam some serious rock anthems!  Working with a creative team of directors and musicians, performers and music lovers (from absolute beginners to musical guns), are invited to come together and rehearse a set of songs in the weeks leading up to the Whittlesea Community Festival - Arts on the Northern Edge, which will be staged in South Morang from 25 & 26 March 2022.

The Big Lost Band performance will be on the afternoon of Saturday 26th March and will serve as the festival’s finale.

Each iteration of the Big Lost Band involves workshops aimed at recruiting people to join the band. This will be done with schools, community clubs, existing local community music programs, open workshops, etc. The Big Lost Band is the brain child of Ian Pidd, a highly experienced community art practitioner, who has an enthusiasm and vision to turn pretty much any group of individuals into an ecstatic rock and roll animal!
