JSC reporting back, Kitchen Garden, Year 4 acknowledgements of country.
The JSC met with Mr Kent and Mrs Wright again last Friday and reported on the following.
Term 1 is always a very busy time of year so finding the space in a timetable is often difficult but we have managed to come up with these events of note.
Friday 18th National Day of Action against bullying. (Various activities in classrooms).
Monday 21st Harmony Day – wear a splash of orange in recognition of the various cultures that make up our special community.
Tuesday 29th House Colours / Dress up day and a house lunch on the oval.
Change to the Australian National Anthem. The Year 5s wrote a persausive letter pointing out we were still using the older version of Advance Australia Fair with the words "...young and free..." rather than "...one and free...". This oversight has now been corrected.
Sharing of the soccer pitch. It has been reported that the pitch is being monopolised by one group of students. IPS is an inclusive school and all students zoned to that area have identical rights to its use.
Please read the Year 5 letter below.
Last week, students in Year 4 were learning about the distinction between an ‘acknowledgement’ of country and a ‘welcome’ to country. We discussed First Nations people of our local area and listened to accounts of their connection to ‘country’ and all the meaning that this word represents.
Students showed their understanding of the Wurundjeri People and their Woiwurrung language by creating their own acknowledgements of country. Please enjoy having a read through them.
