Dear students, families and school community,

I would like to welcome everyone back for the final term of 2021. This term will look a little different in some regards to previous end of year terms. This term will be an exciting and rewarding term for students with many localised activities taking place throughout the eleven weeks we have together.

Staggered returns from remote learning have been outlined below.

  • From Monday the 4th of October all Upper Secondary students are to return back from remote learning.
  • From Monday the 18th of October all students in their first year of school (Lower Junior) at Yarrabah will return back from remote learning on Monday to Wednesday.
  • From Tuesday 26th of October all students in their second and third year (second year lower junior and first year upper junior will return from remote learning on Thursday and Friday.
  • Students in their second year of upper junior or first year in middles will return back from remote learning on Tuesday and Wednesdays.
  • Students in their second and third year of middle school can resume on Thursdays and Fridays.
  • Those students in their first year of lower secondary can come back five days a week.
  • Students in their second and third year of lower secondary can resume on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
  • From Friday the 5th of November all students are expected to return to onsite learning from Monday to Friday

Over this term we will continue to run graduation ceremonies for our year 6 students and leaving year 12 aged students. The preparations for these events are looking wonderful. Graduation dates are available in this newsletter.

We will be attempting to run a colour fun run later in November. At this stage, we are uncertain of family participation but I can assure you it will be a fabulous event for the section students and staff. We will capture all children at this event if you are unable to attend through Seesaw.

Students will be getting to know their local environment by taking walks and riding bikes. Students will also be able to use the new chill out room, crash and bash room and soon to be open, tech room as alternative places of interest.

When the pool opens, middles students will be provided swimming during the week and all our younger students will continue to enjoy regular PMP sessions.

Outdoor physical education and jump-start will remain a very important part of this term. Students in sections will participate in healthy physical activity to start their day, outside, with their section teachers, support staff and specialists. The breakfast program will complement the healthy lifestyle focus and all children will have the opportunity to engage in this program each morning, upon request.

Regular focus on the core curriculum will resume across all the sections as will our lessons on developing independence in personal skills and communication.

Learn to play and theme-related programs will be taught by staff across all sections with aged equivalent programming occurring in the secondary years. Horticulture will be available to students in the secondary years as will the opportunity for upper secondary students to participate in a cafe style learning program.

All of this will be included as part of term four's return to school programming. We will be working to reinforce our nurturing focus for returning students, the school rules and the school values.

This might be a challenging period for your children who have been at home for some time. We can work with you to help return your child back to a routine at school. The main thing is that we all have the same goal and work together as a team. As a team we can make anything happen.

Warm Regards

Matthew Harris
