Term 4 in STEM
Hello everyone,
Term 4 will see students undertaking a new selection of topics from the Victorian School's Curriculum. Check below to see what each year level is up to...
Prep
Prep students will begin a fascinating look into the world of Biological Science when they explore their topic, 'Living Things'. Students will observe the basic stages of development
in a living thing's life cycle and identify the basic caring needs for plants and pets.
Grade 1
Grade 1 students will enter the world of Physical Science in their topic titled, 'Light and Sound'. Students will explore how different sounds are made and learn how the human body hears sounds. They will identify different light sources and investigate how light can be used to illuminate objects around them.
Grade 2
Grade 2 students will be learning all about the earth's resources when they explore the Earth Science unit titled 'Water World'. Students will identify different water uses in their daily lives, investigate ways to conserve water in their local environment and explore how water behaves through practical experiments.
Grade 3
Grade 3 students will learn about the world beyond when they tackle the Earth Science unit of work titled, 'Day and Night'. Students will investigate the movement of the earth in our solar system and explore how the earth's rotation affects life as we know it.
Grade 4
Grade 4 students will take a trip back in time when they begin the Earth Science unit titled, 'Beneath our feet'. They will investigate what our earth once looked like and investigate the changes that have lead us to the world as we know it today. Students will investigate natural processes, such as erosion and identify how human activity has lead to changes in our local environment.
Grade 5
This term, Grade 5 students will feel the earth shake when they begin their unit of work on natural disasters. Students will investigate the cause of sudden changes in our earth's surface and explore the effect that extreme weather conditions can have on people and the environment.
Grade 6
Grade 6 students will explore the world of Chemical Science in their topic on chemical and physical changes. Students will identify the properties of different types of changes and investigate how different variables may affect the outcome of chemical reactions, for example, oxygen levels in combustion.
