Lights, Camera ... ROXY!

Term 4 in Performing Arts at RPPS!

Foundation

In Term 4, Foundation students have been continuing their work on beat, rhythm, and notation by playing homemade instruments! They will complete a unit on drumming, learning the knowledge and techniques required to play short drumming rhythms. Students will also participate in a dance unit, exploring the different ways they can move their bodies to music.

Grade 1 & 2

Grade 1 & 2  students  will be extending their understanding of rhythm through movement. Students will focus on using safe dance practices, locomotor and non-locomotor movement, body parts and shapes in both improvised and structured dance sequences. They will respond to different styles of music and have a chance to copy and create both individually and with their peers. Later in the term, students will have a go at group play-alongs and composition using boomwhackers.

Grade 3 & 4

Grade 3 & 4 students will begin Term 4 with a unit on singing songs from different cultures around the world. They will focus on melody, pitch and song structure, and explore similarities and differences between songs. Students will then progress to singing while playing different instruments, including percussion instruments and even ukuleles! Later in the term they will further explore the elements of drama through tableau and theatre sports.

Grade 5 & 6

Grade 5 & 6 students have begun a unit on bucket drumming. They have looked at different types of drumming from around the world and, using their knowledge of traditional notation, started learning a range of drumming rhythms. They will work towards composing their own drumming piece and playing in drumming ensembles. This will lead into a unit on rhythm and rhyme, and a chance to further explore digital composition.
