Year 5 Report

Term 4 2021

Term 4

Welcome back to another awesome term in Grade 5! We all hope you have had a well deserved break, staying safe during what can only be described as a crazy year! The teachers are really looking forward to getting back into the classroom as soon as we can and seeing all of your wonderful faces in real life!

Literacy and Inquiry

This term in Literacy, the Grade 5's will be writing a variety of explanation texts. These texts will follow the social phenomena topics around our Inquiry topic 'A diverse and connected world.' In Reading, students will explore a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts linking to countries in Inquiry. The texts will explore social events and issues in our world as well as the cause and effect of people, places and events. Each week in Inquiry, we will explore a new country and it's connection to Australia, including Vietnam, Greece, Italy, New Zealand and China. We will discover facts about their geography, culture, land features and influence they have had on Australian society.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, Grade 5 students will build upon their knowledge of place value. Students will build on their understanding of place value making, creating and interacting with whole numbers . Grade 5's will make connections by using their number knowledge to explore fractions and decimals. As always, we make connections to the everyday world during maths tasks. Students will also explore the ways in which we can collect, collate, understand and interpret data samples.
