Year 4 Report
Term 4, 2021
Welcome back everyone to Term 4! We hope you have all had a great break, and are ready for another exciting term. The grade 4 teachers are looking forward to resume onsite teaching and learning shortly and seeing you all.
In Literacy this Term, our Inquiry topic 'Our Neighbouring Countries' is linked with our Reading and Writing. In Reading, the Grade 4's will be looking at a variety of non fiction texts identifying it's structure and features. The students will be given opportunities to recall important facts within the texts that they read, as well as learning how to summarise them using their own words. They will also be encouraged to ask questions and make predictions in order to gain a better understanding of the non fiction texts.
In Writing, the students will focus on Informational texts. They will be given opportunities to brainstorm and choose topics that relate to our Inquiry unit, 'Neighbouring Countries'. They will be using various child friendly references such as Encarta Kids to gather their information and present it using the appropriate text features, structure and appropriate language.
This Term in Mathematics, the grade 4 students will be consolidating their knowledge and understanding of Place Value through the use of interactive materials. Students will also learn that decimals are linked to the Place Value system. The students will have the opportunities to practise the skills learnt by solving worded problems. Measurement concepts such as length, mass and data will also be taught.
In the Inquiry Unit of 'Australia and it's Neighbouring Countries', students are exposed to the characteristics and environment of these countries. They are able to describe the locations and the connection to Australia. In an oral presentation the students will present the information that they have researched of a country of choice, through Flipgrid.
The Grade 4 team,
Carla Asta, Grace Rosella, Jess Baido, Amanda, Vera and Emma.
