Year 3 Report

Term 4

Welcome back to another exciting Term! We all hope you had a nice, relaxing break and are ready to get back in to some exciting learning. You have all made a great start to the term online and it has been fantastic to see all of your smiling faces. The teachers are all excited to get back onsite and see you all in person soon! We have an exciting term planned and can't wait to share it all with you.

Mathematics

This term in mathematics we will be touching on a few different topics, as well as recapping some that we looked at earlier in the year. We will start by having some fun interpreting different graphs, before moving on to measurement where we will be looking at weight. We will then spend a few weeks on Place Value. We completed a unit on Place Value earlier in the year but have seen great growth in the student's skills since then. Because of this growth, we will look at Place Value again to continue to build on the new knowledge and skills the students have developed throughout the year. We will then finish the term playing around with 3D shapes. We will learn their features and have some fun building different 3D shapes.

Literacy

In Literacy, we will begin the term looking at procedural texts. We will read a variety of procedures, identifying the structure and language features that are common to these types of texts. This is a particularly enjoyable unit of work because we are able to read different procedures, follow the steps, and create some fun end products. We have already created some great Minecraft Fox Drawings and paper pirate hats. Students will also be given multiple opportunities to write their own procedural texts, giving instructions on how to do some of their favourite things.

We will then move on to look at Memoirs as a type of recount. While reading a range of memoirs, we will practice our fluency, using punctuation while reading and rereading when things don't make sense. As well as reading memoirs, students will have the opportunity to write their own, focusing on narrowing down our topic, adding thoughts and reactions and including descriptive language to engage the reader.

Inquiry

This term in Inquiry we are looking at Australia and it's identity. We look into the different cultures that make up our country Australia, and investigate our own individual backgrounds and how they shape us. We will then focus on the significance of Australian celebrations, before moving on to celebrations in other places around the world.
