JUNIOR SCHOOL

Stage 1

Year 1

Year 1 has been learning to solve addition problems using the bridging to 10’s strategy, and game based learning to master the skills.

Students are proud to show off their new wall display. These beautiful giraffes were created as students learned the importance of resilience and having a growth mindset while reading Josh Langley's book Magnificent Mistakes and Fantastic Failures, Finding the Good When Things Seem Bad.

Year 2

Count Down to Year 3

Year 2M students are well and truly on their countdown to Year 3. Throughout the remainder of this term, we will continue to reflect on the level of skills and knowledge we will need in order to have a successful start to Year 3. We started our reflection by enjoying Mo Willem’s very funny and popular, “The Pigeon HAS to Go to School!” We then wrote our own versions of the story with our Year 3 focus. Below are some of the issues that the book helped us to work through in a fun and accessible way.

The Pigeon HAS to Go to Third Grade

Why do I have to go to Year Three?

What about the heavy back-packs? I’m a fragile bird!

What if the multiplication is too hard?

What if I’m the smallest in the class?

What if I don’t pass the tests?

What if the teacher asks me questions and I don’t know the answers?

What if the other pigeons make fun of me?

What if I’m too smart for Year 3?

What if the teacher is allergic to pigeons?

What will happen in Year 3?!!!
