Year 10 camps

The Year 10 camp experience for 2019 was the opportunity to travel to Central Australia or Tasmania. There will be more to share on their return to Melbourne. Here are a few photos and some impressions from the students who headed to Central Australia at the weekend.

After our all day and all night bus trip on Saturday, with little to no sleep, we arrived at Coober Pedy.

We walked through opal mines and learnt about opals and their significance to Coober Pedy. Our accommodation was underground in bunks with the whole group in one room divided by curtains.

The next morning we woke up at 5am to make it to our next destination Uluru. After a nap on the bus we awoke to a beautiful sunrise surrounded by all the amazing scenery and views. We are getting to know this amazing environment and really missing Melbourne’s freezing weather (not!)

After six months of anticipation the time to start our adventure to Central Australia had finally arrived.  Our bus left Melbourne on Saturday beginning 21 hours of road travel before our first destination. We stopped at Beaufort, Horsham and Glendambo on the way. After a sleepless night we stopped for breakfast and experienced a gorgeous sunrise. Continuing our journey to Coober Pedy, the opal capital of the world, we had the opportunity to stay underground and tour the town. The opal mine tour was an amazing experience and we got to see how the local community live.

As we were all tired and had a big day ahead, we went to bed early in order to leave Coober Pedy by 5.50am. We were excited to see Uluru and wondered what more adventures were ahead.
