Junior School News

Well done Junior School students!

It has been fantastic to see so many students involved in a range of co-curricular activities over the past few weeks.

A few of these events have included the Junior School Music Showcase, The Mentone Games, Women in History Expo, Museum Excursion, Elevate Study Skills sessions, Brainstorm production and many interschool sporting teams. Students have shown their organisation, communication and leadership skills to be involved in these activities as well as the trials and involved in these activities. With so much on offer it can be quite a challenge to manage and juggle emails, lunchtime trials and practice sessions. Similarly it also shows lots of resilience and persistence when students do not get into their preferred team or activity. Our sporting results were very good, but most impressive was the sportsmanship and team spirit displayed not only by our Junior School students but also by their Middle School coaches.

Steve Williams, 8A-D Student Manager, will be going on leave for Term 3. We hope he has an enjoyable and relaxing time away. Mel Erwin, current 8E-G Student Manager, will be taking over his role for this term. If you wish to contact any of the Junior School team, please telephone:

Brainstorm Production - The Flipside - Year 7

Last week the Year 7s were engaged, entertained and informed after watching an education theatre piece, by Brainstorm Productions, called the Flipside. It was a great performance that challenged the students’ view on ethics and online behaviour and was a good reminder about the responsible use of technology and how social media creates a digital footprint. The students will be doing some follow up activities during their PL lessons.

Year 8 Elevate Education program

On Friday during Period 4, Elevate Education is returning to work with the Year 8 students on a ‘Kick Start’ Study Skills seminar. This introduces students to three core study skills: dynamic reading, note-taking, and conceptual learning. This is designed to prepare and support the students with their transition into year 9, when exams commence in their core subjects.

Year 7 Museum excursion - student reports

On Wednesday 12 June all the Year 7s went on an excursion to the Melbourne Museum where we looked at the: Forest Floor, First People’s Gallery and many other galleries. We learnt about Bunjil the eagle and different types of plants in the forest floor. We also looked at old fashioned houses compared to the houses we have today. We all had an amazing time and enjoyed learning about all the different things at the Melbourne Museum.

Year 7 students went on an excursion to the Melbourne Museum on Wednesday 12 June. We visited their current exhibits; Melbourne Story, Bugs Alive, Dynamic Earth, Forest Gallery, Dinosaur Walk and the First Peoples Gallery. We answered a series of questions as we browsed through each exhibit. Melbourne Story was about the history of Melbourne and had many interesting artefacts to learn about. Bugs Alive was about different types of bugs and insects, and interesting facts about them you might not have known already. Dynamic Earth included a series of different minerals, crystals and stones. With each one came a small piece of information. The Forest Gallery explored different plants, mostly ones that lived in humid or wet areas. We had a walk through the trees and plants also beside a large pond. The Dinosaur Walk had all sorts of skeletons of dinosaurs to look at, and along with this came a timeline showing the evolution of animals and humankind. Lastly, the First Peoples Gallery had much information on the First People of Australia, the Aboriginal people. It had lots of videos and history on their culture and how they have lived through time. All of these exhibits were very entertaining with numerous interactive screens and activities. Overall it was a great excursion where we all learnt lots of new information.
