In the classroom

Our Year 8, 9 and 10 students will soon be looking at subject choices for 2020.  Year 9 and 10 students have a number of electives subjects to complement their core subjects.  Below are some examples of what's been happening in the classroom over Semester 1.

Year 10 Food for Life

Soup

Students styled and photographed packaged food. They used different techniques like food colouring, cardboard to prop up the ingredients and individually selecting and re-cooking some of the ingredients so they looked fresh and appertising, aiming for the 'perfect' presentation of the product.

Dessert

Students researched popular Instagram bloggers. The desserts were dishes they baked themselves from scratch and then used the elements and principles of art and design to make them 'picture perfect'.

Elevate Education Workshop

Elevate education were engaged on Wednesday 12 June to take our Year 9 students through their Careers Application Workshop.

The program, which is run by young and energetic presenters, took students through the process of applying for a job and in particular focussed on how to write their resume and a job application cover letter. This is important information for Year 9 students as they begin to think about applying for part-time work and will also assist them when they are seeking work experience placements for next year and their careers beyond school.

Some feedback from students:

  • The program was really helpful and will definitely benefit me when applying for a job.
  • I learnt that the way you present yourself and give a first impression is important.
  • The program was extremely helpful and made me feel more at ease about applying for a job.
  • 10/10 it was interesting and informative.
  • I learnt how to correctly structure a resume and cover letter as I was planning on making a resume soon.

The Year 9 students will have the opportunity to follow-up the Elevate Careers Workshop in their next Personal learning and work on their own resume which they will be able to use for future career pursuits.
