Principal's Message

Welcome back everyone, we have enjoyed a smooth start to 2020 here at PPPS. However, as we are all aware, this has been a devastating bush fire season, which included a fire coming perilously close to a number of homes belonging to families in our community. There will be others who have been worried about family and friends who were holidaying, or who live in the worst affected areas. I trust that everyone in our community is safe now, however we will continue to think about and support the people whose lives were forever changed by their experiences. I’m sure that, like me, you were humbled and inspired by the courage and fortitude of our volunteer and career fire fighters, including, of course, those who lost their lives.

Another concern for us all is the ongoing situation with the coronavirus. Thank you for keeping up to date by reading the Compass feeds. We are very fortunate to have such a caring community where families who were overseas, but not even in China, have implemented a self imposed quarantine before returning to school. Their thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated by us all.  As the Department evolves its advice, I will keep you informed through Compass.

We were delighted to welcome our new teaching staff members to PPPS; Ms Hollie Winfield who joins us as a Learning Specialist in Prep and as part of our leadership team, Mr Tom Kimpton who has joined our year 5 team, Ms Aimee Deacon who has joined the year 2 team and sharing a class with Mrs Linda Philippedis and Mr Thomas Stubberfield who joined our specialist team for four days a week in Music.

We also welcome Mrs Sharon Shaw, who has joined us as the Business Manager until we advertise and appoint an ongoing Business Manager. Mrs Shaw is an experienced BM who ‘comes out of retirement’ when needed to help schools like ours.

We have also welcomed back several teachers you may know; Mrs Sharon Kandell and Mrs Kate Cugnetto. Sharon has thoroughly enjoyed her 12 months leave as she spent relaxed time with her family and travelled overseas. I also want to reassure our Learning Buds families that Kate will still be offering her fabulous program again this year, but is also working two days a week with us.

A big warm welcome to our new students and families across the school who have joined the Plenty Parklands community this year. We trust you will be made to feel at home.

We also welcome our 2020 preps and their families. Thank you to all the families who joined us last week for the Welcome BBQ. Thank you to our School Council President and Council members who cooked up a storm for everyone to enjoy. There was excitement, laughter and smiles all round; parents, kids, volunteers and staff.

We look forward to a successful 2020 for everyone at PPPS.
