Dominican Cup

As part of St Dominic’s Day celebrations, the Senior A Soccer and Senior A Basketball teams competed for the annual Dominican Cup. The Dominican Cup was established in 2007 between Blackfriars Priory School and Cabra Dominican College to celebrate both school’s strong Dominican tradition. The Senior A Soccer and Senior A Basketball teams played for a trophy with the best players from each team being awarded a medal for their standout performance.  These games were played on Saturday 5 August at Cabra Dominican College.

 

Senior A Soccer

Won 7 – 0. Goals: Andy McWhirter 5, Jordan Mugford 2.

Medal Winner: Andy McWhirter.

 

Senior A Basketball

Lost 35 – 76.

Medal Winner: Harrison Smith.

 

First XI State Knockout Soccer

On Monday 14 August, Blackfriars competed against Henley High School in State Knockout Soccer. It was a competitive match with plenty of goals scored. Blackfriars were locked at 3 – 3 with only a few minutes remaining. A penalty was awarded which Luis Lawrie-Lattanzio easily scored. Blackfriars won the match 4 – 3. The First XI team will now progress to the next stage of the competition.

 

Goals: Carlo Armiento 2, Jakob Mugford 1, Luis Lawrie-Lattanzio 1.

 

First XI Twilight League Soccer

Blackfriars are currently top of the Twilight Soccer League Competition with one game remaining. The team have played 10 games – 8 wins and 2 draws. Carlo Armiento currently leads the top goal scorer for Blackfriars as well as the Twilight Soccer League with 15 goals. The Twilight Soccer League Grand Final is scheduled for Wednesday 30 August at Adelaide Shores West Beach.

Round 7 – Blackfriars vs Pulteney Grammar School

Blackfriars Won 3 – 2

Best Players: Zachary Dalton, Francis Snelling, Declan Hillman.

 

Round 8 – Blackfriars vs Immanuel College

Blackfriars Lost 3 – 2

Best Players: Kristian Tsimouris, Declan Hillman.

 

Upcoming Knockout Sport Fixtures

  • 8/9 Boys Knockout 5-a-side Indoor Soccer – On Monday 21 August, Blackfriars will be competing in the Southern Zone 8/9 Boys Knockout 5-a-side Indoor Soccer Competition. It will be a round robin competition with each team playing each other once. The winner at the end of the day will progress to the finals where they will compete against other winning schools from their respective zones.
  • Year 10 Knockout Soccer – On Thursday 24 August, Blackfriars will be competing in Year 10 Knockout Soccer against Sacred Heart College and Tatachilla Lutheran College. The winner will progress to the finals.
  • Open Knockout Badminton Final – On Friday 25 August, Blackfriars will be competing in the finals of the Open Knockout Badminton Competition. The finals will be played at Badminton SA Headquarters.

 

Intercol vs CBC

In Week 5, Blackfriars will compete against CBC in the annual Intercol. The Intercol always brings out a strong rivalry between Blackfriars and CBC and will see both schools compete for a number of trophies in a range of co-curricular sports and activities which are:

  • Senior Debating
  • Senior Chess
  • First XI Soccer
  • Senior Table Tennis
  • First XVIII Football
  • Senior Basketball

 

A full running sheet for all intellectual activities and sports is attached. History of past Championship Trophy winners and individual medal winners is also attached. Students are reminded about expectations and being responsible in their behaviour and interactions at the many events during Intercol. This means showing respect and discipline towards your opposition and displaying good sportsmanship on and off the field. Play the game fairly and encourage your team mates in a positive manner.
