Japanese storyteller telling the traditional tale of The Peach Boy

Hallinan Library

This week heralded the beginning of our Book Week celebrations. Escape to Everywhere is this year’s theme.  The ELC and primary students had a puzzle and quiz to solve based on the theme of characters escaping.  There was much excitement as they earnt a key to release the next clue, and they thoroughly enjoyed using the iPads to complete a Kahoot quiz.

Ms Chikako Oguma organised a traditional Japanese storyteller to tell the story of Momotaro, The Peach Boy.  Momotaro helped prisoners escape from the Demon King, who had terrified all in the land. The storyteller bought much animation and participation to the story.

Both libraries have displays highlighting the escape theme. Next week the Senior Library will hold its annual morning quiz, and treasure hunt with reading classes. While the ELC and primary classes will participate in an assembly focussing on nominated books, rotation activities based on the short listed books and explore the escape theme further.  A reminder that Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) sheets are due on Friday the 25 of August.

Please note primary students are not required to dress up this year.  Save those brilliant ideas for next year!
