We invite everyone to visit the Senior Learning Centre on Friday the 20th of October starting at 6pm. The display will include work by students who have completed folio work in:

  • Art
  • Studio Arts - Ceramics
  • Studio Arts – Photography
  • Visual Communication and Design
  • Product Design and Technology

Light refreshments will be served and your viewing experience will be enhanced by performances by some of our music performance students.

There will be presentations at 6.30 where our special guest, Max Darby will offer his reflections on the exhibition and acknowledge the best of the work on display.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Arts Week

Week Nine of this term was Arts Week at Wanganui. From the 11th to the 15th of September we celebrated all things Arty and involved everybody in the school in a wide range of creative activities. This included activities in painting, dance, music performance, theatre, photography and more. People dressed up, made noise, got messy and took creative risks.

At the end of the week, the Arts area took over one of the Humanities class rooms to mount an exhibition of student work and the canteen erupted with music and dance, thanks to our DJ Trent Cowland and Mrs McGregor’s dance team.

It was a colourful, noisy, fun and exhausting few days. The Arts area would like to congratulate and thank everyone who made a contribution, especially the students who dressed up Arty on our Out of Uniform Day.

We look forward to doing it all again next year!

VMG Dance excursion to Melbourne

On Wednesday 13th September, our Dance students travelled to Melbourne to take part in some exciting activities. Students from Mooroopna Secondary College also joined us for this trip.

In the morning we did a Contemporary Dance workshop at Transit Dance, a dance training facility in Kensington run by Paul Malek. The school has been built inside an old warehouse and has a fabulous atmosphere. All of the students participated enthusiastically and gained some new movement skills by learning a routine from one of their teachers, Jayden. Our students really enjoyed this experience and look forward to visiting again.

After the workshop, the students commuted to the Arts Centre Melbourne and saw Bangarra Dance Theatre perform “Bennelong”. The content was very moving and the professionalism was inspiring. It’s always beneficial to be immersed in a professional show. Afterwards we were able to catch up with one of the dancers / choreographers from the company who talked with the group. Students are completing analysis work back at school based on this performance.
