Principal's Report
Dear Parents,
REMINDER MONDAY IS A PUBLIC HOLIDAY
Tuesday 14 March marks the start of Catholic Education Week. The theme is ' Moved by the love of Christ' which fits in perfectly with our school community as a community who come together to help every one in need. To help celebrate our identity as a Catholic school we will have our School Open Day on Wednesday 15 March. The school will be open from 9.00am to 3.00pm and prospective and existing families are invited to come along. Please feel free to bring the family in and see all the wonderful things happening around the school.
Our Twilight House Carnival is fast approaching (24 March) and there is much excitement in the air as House Captains meet with their teams with the intent of motivating children to be the best that they can be.
Please ensure you arrive by 4.45pm at the Collingwood Athletics Track (George Knott Reserve) Heidelberg Rd Clifton Hill . Feel free to bring along a picnic as well as a few coins to purchase a sausage and drink. Most of all, have fun and enjoy the company of old and new friends. My sincere thanks who have volunteered to assist Kathy Geary in the canteen. Next week we will publish the list of events and times. Can I stress very strongly, that you do not miss your child's event by arriving late. This has happened in the past and is very upsetting to children. Please be at the venue for a 5.00pm start. Aftercare will end at 4.30pm sharp on that night.
My thanks to Alison for organising Icy Pole Day and this Friday we look forward to Pizza for lunch. Thank you to Fran Peccoraro and her band of helpers for co-ordinating the event.
In the 'Other News' section of the newsletter, I have explained our closure day for Term 2. Our school is part of a collective working on the Visible Learning approach and all schools will have professional development at St. Clare's Thomastown West. OSHClub will be open providing they have sufficient numbers.
Next week myself and 5 teachers will head up to Sydney with other schools in the collective to attend a day with John Hattie. The focus of the day is 'how do we deepen the understanding about what children learn.' We are very excited to hear about his latest theories and put them into practice so that our children have a greater understanding, better engagement and are connected to their learning.
It has come to my attention that parents have been approaching other children and other parents about school issues, such as play, friends etc, to mention a few. These issues can be resolved by children and teachers if brought to our attention. Parents approaching other children or parents is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Can I remind you about the parent protocols that every parent has signed upon enrolement, which clearly states that 'any issues arising that effect your child must be discussed with your child's class teacher as the first port of call and if the matter is not resolved, then contact the principal.'
Our deepest sympathy to Paul Cleeman on the passing of his father. Please keep the Cleeman family in your prayers.
Have a great long weekend.
Regards Dino
