‘Fair Go Mate’

In Year Five, our current Inquiry unit is called ‘Fair Go Mate.’ The students have been investigating the Australian history timeline in which we asked them, is Australia a fair country? The students have looked at how significant events have shaped our nation including Federation, the right to vote, Gold Fever and the Eureka Rebellion.  We will be exploring the rights of different minorities and how their rights have changed over time. We have also spent time reading different Bible stories and identifying people who were excluded and the message that we can take from Jesus’ actions to include these people.

A major focus for us leading up to camp is discovering information about the rights of the miners searching for gold and how democracy first came about after the events of the Eureka Rebellion. Students are really excited about our camp in week seven where they will have an opportunity to connect with the past.
