During Term 4, students in Grades 2/3/4 have been learning about the Japanese Contemporary Artist Yaiyoi Kusama. They used the whole school Art theme of ‘Curious Creatures Wild Minds’ to specifically investigate Kusama’s inu (dog) sculptures. Students recreated her decorative style by experimenting with the repetition of geometric and organic shapes to create patterns. They also explored how to create cohesion in their artwork by using a colour palette. Students used paint markers and water based markers to create either a geometric or organic shape background. They used wax crayons to draw their dogs’ and painted over the top using watercolour. This technique is called watercolour resist, as the wax sits above and resists  the watercolour. Students also experimented with texture, by adding glitter, paint sticks, and pom poms to their dogs. Come and see the display in the Reception area and Art Room!
