Well-Being

Next week is wellbeing week at BBPS – teachers will be supporting students to engage with a range of daily activities focused on Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. A program has been developed by our Grade 6 Leaders – jump on their Grade 6 Leadership Site to see what our students will be doing.

Friday 20th November is Emotions Day: Initiated by Jaime and Oakley, Ruby and Felix (our School Captains and SRC Coordinators respectively), students are encouraged to wear a colour that best represents their emotion felt during lock down. Gold coin donations will go to Beyond Blue, as chosen by our students.

Dinner Time Chats: Following some great feedback from our community about the Dinner Time Chats that we offered during learning from home, here are a couple of ideas directly linked to the topic of Stress Management – an area that most grades are exploring through our Respectful Relationships Curriculum: RRR Curriculum

  • What does it mean when we say, ‘I am so stressed?’

Stressed is a word we use to describe the overall feeling of being worried over a period of time, or the feeling that we should be doing more than we can manage. Sometimes our problems can cause us to feel worried or distressed as we think about what we should do. We can feel stressed when we have a few problems all at once, or when our problems last for a long time.

(Example taken from Year 3 and 4 curriculum, see link above if you would like more of a script to use with your family to talk about stress)

  • What are some different ways that people can help themselves when they feel stressed? Come up with a family list.
  • Share an example of when you feel stressed because:

Something is hard (e.g. having a test at school in a subject you don’t feel very good at)

Something is new (e.g. going in the school swimming sports for the very first time)

Something is scary (e.g. having to have an injection or going down the giant slide)

We have too much to do (e.g. clean your bedroom, do your homework, and feed the dog all before you can go out to play with your friend)

  • How can we help each other to calm down or cheer up? Draw pictures of different strategies.
