Victoria Challenge & Enrichment Series: History Here

On November 17 and 18, a group of Year 7 & 8 Beaumaris Secondary College students took part in the History Writing Challenge: History Here. They worked collaboratively online with students from across the state to discuss writing, brainstorm ideas and approach Australian history from a novel and engaging perspective. One of the participants, Archie Le-Ray, reflected on his experience:

The writing workshop ‘History Here’ was a fun and educational event. Lead by the renowned author Paul Stafford, it spanned the course of two whole days – and was a worthwhile experience if there ever was one! History Here involved a select few students partaking in a number of contrasting writing exercises – each focusing on a different key aspect of storytelling or on further developing sophisticated writing. The program concluded with the students creating a script on a famous historical Victorian event – using both their own prior knowledge and Stafford’s teaching to do so. Conclusively, the event History Here was an excellent learning experience and is recommendable to anyone that is fortunate enough to ever be offered the opportunity to partake in it.
