Learning and Teaching

Ms Jodie Connell - Deputy Principal

Congratulations to the Year 12 Students on the way they finished their formal schooling last week. As they continue their exam revision we encourage them to study hard, keep sleeping and eating well and maintain good levels of exercise.  Students are reminded that they can still access their teachers for support during the course of the exam period.

I would also like to wish our Year 12 students all the best for their upcoming Unit 3 & 4 exams. Despite experiencing what is arguably the most difficult final year of secondary schooling on record, it is very encouraging for our College Community to see their seniors act with grace, confidence and maturity.

Year 11 Exam Timetable

Please be advised that Year 11 exams will run from Thursday 12th November to Thursday 19th November. All Year 11 VCE exams are conducted in Rooms 20, 21 and 46. Students must wear their correct school uniform to each exam.

Students are not required to be at school during the exam period unless they have an exam. If they need to remain on the college grounds students must be in the Library for supervised study.

Any students with an exam clash must email Mr Charles to make alternative arrangements. Year 11 students completing a Unit 4 Exam must attend the VCE Unit 4 examinations as a priority.

Year 11 VCAL students will continue with their classes as per normal.

Years 9 and 10 Exams

In the coming weeks students from Years 9 and 10 will receive their end-of-year exam schedule (7th December to 9th December). These exams provide students with the opportunity to establish exam study routines, organise themselves, synthesise, consolidate and apply the learning they have undertaken across the semester.

We encourage parents to regularly log-in to the Parent Access Module (PAM) and view feedback for their child’s assessment tasks. Parents are invited to contact teachers at any time, either by phone or email, to discuss their child’s progress.

VET (TAFE Gippsland) Orientation Days

Given the Victorian Government Guidelines regarding Health and Safety measures to minimise risk associated with learning outside the school environment, TAFE Gippsland have determined that the planned Orientation days for 2021 students will not take place as planned. This is to ensure the mixing of students from different educational facilities and schools is minimised wherever practical in accordance with the advice provided to schools.

This Orientation Session will take place in early February 2021 on the first day of scheduled attendance at TAFE Gippsland Campuses.

Booklists and Stationery Lists

Booklists and Stationery lists for 2021 are now available on the College Website https://www.mackillopleongatha.catholic.edu.au/discover-2/learning-and-teaching/school-resources-list-booklist/

Stationery lists need to be ordered by Friday 20th November to avoid a late fee. Please note that due to changes related to COVID safe practices there will not be a book collection day in 2021. Stationary will be home delivered for a flat rate of $15.95 per family.

Booklists need to be completed online by Friday 4th December to avoid additional fees. Booklists can be purchased instore from Campion Education in Berwick (Unit 1/ 5 Intrepid Street) or via Home Delivery for a fee of $10 per booklist. Families with more than one child can submit one booklist online and can then call the Customer Service line 1300-433-982 to add additional books from other year levels.

There are a number of VCE Science and Humanities subjects that are using Edrolo textbooks for 2021. Please note that the cost of these books includes a complimentary physical printed textbook as well as the the complete digital textbook with access to video solutions to every question in the book, exemplar solutions, and hundreds of exam questions. Staff will also have access to digital data on how students are tracking including their understanding of content (strengths and weaknesses) as well as completion of class work. Please note the book is revised and edited each year so the 2021 edition will be different from the 2020 edition. The hard copy text books will be delivered to the College at the start of 2021 and distributed in class.
