Jump Rope for Heart

On Wednesday the 11th of November the Year 11 Sport and Recreation class ran a jump rope for heart inspired event as part of our ‘Conduct Sport, Fitness or Recreation Events’ unit. This gave us a great opportunity to put into practice all of the new skills that we have learned since being back to onsite learning. Part of the unit was demonstrating how we were able to plan and manage events which provided us with experience for the future. We decided to do jump rope for heart as it was something the Year 7s missed out on and it was one of the activities which other year levels had looked forward to.

Prior to the event we collected donations from the students which were donated to the Heart Foundation, so many thanks to those who donated.

We conducted a rotations style event meaning that each Year 7 Homerooms got to participate in six activities, which ranged from number soccer, single skipping to group skipping. The Year 7s seemed to really enjoy it as it was a nice way to have some fun and give students a break between their busier days.

First Aid Course

On the 22nd of October the Year 11 Sport and Recreation class participated in a Level II First Aid training incursion. We were able to complete this unit, Covid safe, this included social distancing and always sanitizing equipment before and after using them.

Throughout the day, we were able to learn Life saving skills, , such as performing CPR on an infant and an adult, but also learning how to use an epinephrine.

We began the day by an introduction and briefing form Peter, about the content we were going to explore throughout the day.

We were taught the importance of first aid, incidents that we may come across, and how to take action when approaching someone who is unconscious. We were taught how to communicate with emergency services and situations and how to contact different emergency services.

Our first aid training session began by learning how to provide CPR on an infant and an adult. We learnt how to use an epinephrine, which we were able to easily perpetuate.  To further deepen our knowledge, we watched videos of emergency situations, and then were taught what to do in those situations.

At the end of the day, we took a test that consisted of 52 questions to complete our unit and become eligible to receive a certificate to then be permitted to provide First aid.
