Materials Technology

2020 Term 4 Materials Technology

Students have been excited to resume classes at school this term, and teachers have welcomed seeing students getting involved in hands on activities in Materials Technology. Year 9 students have resumed projects, and given the short time frame, we have condensed our curriculum to include a Mini Hamper and a Gingerbread House in Edible Gifts and basic cake making decorating skills in Cake Art but the results shown in the photos speak for themselves.  Year 10 Celebrity Chef course has focused on commodities, and students are learning about properties and characteristics of various foodstuffs.  Practical classes focus on specific skills such as making homemade pasta, pastry (apple pie) and cheese sauce (macaroni cheese). In Year 9 textiles, students had a choice to make either an applique cushion or boxer shorts depending on their confidence and machine management skills.

We Made It!

Fashion and Textiles students jumped for joy as they finished their garments and projects under extraordinary circumstances.

Year 7 students extended their hand sewing and machining skills; some made little birds with fabric scraps whilst others and made stuffed toys.

The Years 8 and 9 classes were able to produce an appliqued cushion or a pair of boxer shorts in record time!

Whilst in lockdown, the Year 10 Fashion Workshop class created magnificent folios, but when they returned to school, they opted to make vintage wrap skirts reminiscent of the 70s!

The Year 11 VET students finished their Fairy Themed Party dresses with amazing folios.

Whereas the Year 12 fashion students were able to complete their gowns fit for a gala event!

In all, the Fashion and Textiles staff were very pleased to end the year on such a positive note, well done students!
