Student Work

Digital Technologies Year 7

Semester 2 was hard enough as it was with online learning. We came back to school with a positive attitude!  During online learning we started coding, then moved onto Google Sheets and continued that as we came back to school for a week and a half.

Mr Ferrier introduced us to Mbot’s! We have learnt to control mini robots with our computers and learnt how to direct them, by getting a USB stick and plugging it into our computer to work the robot.

They were very confusing at the beginning, but we worked in a group of 3 to help each other out and take turns controlling the robot. Bella Jones and Marina Cooke worked as a team to control the robot and not break it like some other people did. Our digital technology teacher Mr Ferrier explained it very well, and gave us a few weeks to get our heads around it and then it was RACE TIME!  We did a 2 lap race and each group took it in turns to work together to win the race and tried not to crash.

I’ve had a lot of fun working with these robots and they’re pretty easy to set up on your computer. With the new learning intentions and success criteria we know what to achieve in the period/lesson, then we reflected on what we did best and what we needed to change for next time.

I hope the students, parents and teachers get the chance to use mbot’s one day, because I enjoyed working with them and so did my classmates.

We had a lot of fun!

Have a great day

Humanities Year 8

Miss Balson's Year 8 History classes got to be "Plague Doctors" and make their very own Tussie Mussies.  We used herbs, such as Rosemary, Sage and Lavender.  Although we know of course they cannot really help fight Plagues, they smelt amazing and it  was lovely to have a tactile and olfactory creative experience in class. At least they would have helped to combat the stench in medieval towns!

8J had a hands on lesson making straw towers. (Straws were made of paper of course!)

The purpose was to revise systems of government and therefore do this competitive activity, according to the government style you were allocated. Naturally, the anarchists did a terrible job!  King Orlando and the Monarchists made a beautiful structure, but ran out of equipment. The Democratic team cooperated beautifully of course and Chris was  in charge of the Autocratic group. He gave the orders and 'bumped off' any dissidents (poor Sven!)

So the winners were tied; The democratic team and the Autocratic team had stable and very tall towers. Well Done 8J. You are always fun to teach!!

History Year 8

During remote learning the Year 8 Humanities class focused on the medieval era. A chunk of our learning was about the Viking age. Due to the flexibility of this topic, we were given an opportunity to complete a creative task and make something to outline this era. I decided to create a mood board which portrays what it may have looked like at the time.
