The National Science Week theme this year is 'Glass: More than meets the eye'. Science Week isn't until August BUT, 2022 is the United Nations International Year of Glass. What a great reason to learn about glass!

Here is a fun glass themed activity that you may like to try at home.

Stained Glass Window Biscuits

This is a great cooking activity to explore how materials can change. The dough starts soft and can be pulled, pushed, rolled and bent into shapes. After baking, the dough is hard and cannot be moulded. The sugar starts hard, then is crushed into a powder. While baking, the sugar becomes a liquid and fuses into one big piece. After the sugar cools, it becomes hard and transparent again. Sugar glass is an amorphous solid, like the glass in bottles and jars.
