Last Week of Term

The last day of this term is on Friday with the earlier time of 2.30pm. The day will finish well with the Foundation to Year 6 dance performances. It has been wonderful seeing the excitement build and students practicing their routines for the big event.

I am so happy that we have had a relatively trouble free term, despite the continued impact of all things COVID. Unlike many schools, although there has been an impact, the number of positive cases has remained relatively low and manageable.

Our students, both old and new, have settled into the new school year well, learning new things and reconnecting with their friends as well as making new ones. It is strange to think that this is the first term for over two years where there was no remote learning. Being an eleven week term, means that both students and staff are ready for a break and a chance to recharge the batteries.

This time last year the mood was very different and we had little idea of what each week would bring us. Finally, we will all have the opportunity as a family to really enjoy the vacation period, either through day trips, an interstate or local holiday. I for one am looking forward to celebrating and appreciating all the things in life I used to take for granted and am taking my first plane trip for over two years.

Stage 2 Building Works are about to Commence

The project to upgrade the Heritage Building and the grounds at the front of the school will commence over the school holidays.

The last two weeks we have been busy preparing for the relocation of classes. I express my gratitude to the teachers and students who have assisted in the complicated process and once again proved what can be done when everyone works together as a team to get things done.

The first stage of the upgrade involves the removal of asbestos in the toilet area. Removal of this asbestos means that our school will now be asbestos free. I will enjoy removing the ‘This building contains asbestos materials’ signs from the entrances.

As for the previous building works, there will be some disruptions while the renovation takes place, but the finished product will be well worth celebrating. The timeline for completion is about 100 working days, so we should be back in the new learning spaces by the beginning of Term 4. I have been very grateful over the past few years for the flexibility and understanding shown by the parents, students and staff when minor hiccups have occurred.

I will keep you updated about progress and any implications due to the works to drop offs or pick ups if they occur via the COMPASS portal.
